Spring Overspending =^..^=
Hi Everyone,
When the days are warm, I think of a spring budget downfall for me…my garden.
I have tried a few things to curb my garden spending:
1. Buy perennials that will spread rather than put money in annuals.
2. Trade cuttings with a neighbor.
3. Check out garage sales and flea markets for good prices on plants.
4. Don’t buy more than I can plant.
5. SET AND KEEP TO A GARDEN BUDGET.
Please share your spring tips - or other shopping frustrations…

Take care!

Hi. My tips regarding Spring Overspending include:
1. Try purchasing seed packages of various plants and vegetables from the supermarkets, Home Depot, or the Dollar Store. The packages can be purchased separately for less than $1.99 and the backs of the packages include simple instructions.
2. Try attending the annual AG/ Agricultural Day in Newark, DE at the University of Delaware on or around Saturday, April 29. The school sales plants in different varieties at fairly good prices.
3. If you feel like driving to Chichester Township, 20 minutes North on I-495 to the Chichester Exit. Turn left at the exit and drive 3 miles over and look for Produce Junction on the right. This produce market sells potted plants, and tree plants at inexpensive prices. Also, the produce is of fresh high quality grade and good prices.

Hi Ronni,
I like your Spring saving tips.
I’ve had neighbors SELL their plant cuttings. Hostas and peonies are great for this. And you can also do this with houseplants but I suggest you root those first.
Although not related to a garden, we all know that HOSTING a garage sale is a great way to save money. This is just a gentle reminder to keep in mind as the weather warms up. When you start to Spring clean…have some boxes ready. Mark one for trash, one for donation and one for a garage sale.
I heard on the radio yesterday that purchasing via the internet is on the rise as stores close down to due to our current economy. If you purchase a lot online, keep your current issue of Pocket Change nearby to remind you to be diligent. Keep a piggy bank nearby too as a reminder of saving. Visuals like these or something meaningful to you just may help you not to overspend.
See you on Saturday in Dover,
Sharon
